To separate or integrate (language skills)? That is the question (when it comes to assessment)!

Many classroom tasks involve integrated skills, yet many tests still only include discrete skills. However, integrated skills assessments have become more popular in recent decades (Gebril & Plakans, 2009) because they better represent real-world usage and can involve learners in motivating assessment tasks. This presentation will look at the pros and cons of both discrete and integrated tasks and consider what types of integrated tasks we might use in assessment.
