Didacta off, the fringe events of Fair Didacta Italy. Book in for the events!

Three prestigious locations in Florence city centre: Palazzo Vecchio (piazza della Signoria), the Complesso delle Murate (piazza delle Murate) and Sant’Apollonia Auditorium (via San Gallo, 25) are going to host Didacta Off, the fringe events, open to the public, dedicated to issues related to young people, and especially addressed to students.

The more than 15 workshops, film projections, and theatre shows of Didacta off sprang out of the collaboration between Florence city council and the Tuscany region, thanks to the support of various associations and institutions.

Tuesday 26 September

We begin on Tuesday 26 at 7pm in the Salone de’ Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio with the inaugural concert of the Erasmus Orchestra, directed by Maestro Elio Orciuolo and made up of Erasmus students of Conservatories and Italian Music Institutes. Music by Mozart, Rossini, Mascagni, Puccini and Bizet.

Wednesday 27 September

On the morning of the following day, Wednesday 27 September, there are going to be two workshops, one on “Young People and Sexually Transmitted Diseases”, organised by Anlaids Onlus – National Association for the Fight Against AIDS (From 10 am -1 pm, Complesso delle Murate) and another on “Legality Area”, organised by Inps, Inail and the Police Forces (10 am -1 pm, Auditorium of Santa Apollonia). Both meetings are aimed at secondary school students. In the afternoon, there will be “What kind of student am I?” Past, Present and Future of Your School Experience “, a workshop on “Wellbeing at school” for secondary students, organised by “Libri liberi”, (2:30 pm – 4:30 pm, Auditorium of Santa Apollonia), followed by the projection of the film “Emotional Education”, directed by Federico Bondi and Clemente Bicocchi (5 pm – 7 pm, Auditorium of Santa Apollonia). Finally, the Concert of the Ensamble Flauti Erranti “The breath of the soul” organised by the Regional Network of Flauti Toscana, by the National Committee for the Practical Learning of Music at School and by Indie (8.30 pm, Palazzo Vecchio).

 Thursday 28 September

Thursday, 28 opens with the seminar “Alcohol consumption education”, organised by Confesercenti-CESCOT, to raise awareness among secondary school students for a healthy approach to alcohol (10 am-1 pm, Complesso delle Murate). At the same time, there is going to be a road safety event, organised by Aci, the Road Police and the Municipal Police, addressed to lower and upper secondary schools (10 am – 1 pm, Auditorium of Santa Apollonia). In the afternoon, there will be two events dedicated to the priest Lorenzo Milani: the presentation of the catalogue “Barbiana and its school”, with images taken from the priest Lorenzo Milani Foundation archive, together with Pamela Giorgi and Sandra Gesualdi (2 pm – 3 pm, Auditorium of Santa Apollonia); and the projection of the docufilm “Barbiana 65. The lesson of Lorenzo Milani”, directed by Alessandro D’Alessandro, an independent production by Felix film with unreleased historical footage on Lorenzo Milani and his school, in competition at the Biennale of  Venice (3: 30 pm – 4: 30 pm, Auditorium of Santa Apollonia), followed by, another docufilm for students of all school levels: “Class Register”, directed by Gianni Amelio and Cecilia Pagliarani, a century long journey, where teachers, children and parents of every part of Italy talk about their experience at compulsory school (5 pm – 7 pm, Auditorium of Santa Apollonia). Also in the afternoon, there will be a workshop addressed to secondary school students on the correct use of the mobile phone, organised by prof. Paolo Maria Rossini, Ordinary Professor of Neurology of the “Gemelli” Policlinic in Rome (4 pm – 6 pm, Complesso delle Murate).

 

Friday, September 29

Many other events enrich the Didacta Off programme on it last day, Friday 29. The Bank of Italy organises “Money does not fall from the sky”, a didactic meeting for lower secondary school students on what is and what the Bank of Italy does, with a team game on savings, inflation and aspects of behavioural economics (10 am to 12 pm, Complesso delle Murate). The workshop “Safety at school”, organised by the Civil Protection, VVFF and Coni, is addressed to upper secondary school (10 am -1 pm, Auditorium of Santa Apollonia). “Kids economy, economy explained to children” is the title of this event dedicated to secondary school students. Maurizio Lupo from the CNR’s Sustainable Economic Growth Research Institute will show how the economy, often considered to be a hard subject, is based on a series of ideas commonly found in the everyday life of children and young people, and is crucial for the growth of well-informed and aware young citizens (12 pm -1 pm, Complesso delle Murate). In the afternoon, “Light and vision: how do we see the world” by Alessandro Farini of the National Institute of Optics of CNR: with interactive examples and practical tests with the public, will explain to students of secondary schools what light is, how does the visual system work and what is the fundamental role of the brain in the perceptual process (14: 30-16: 30, Complesso delle Murate). The Cellini -Tornabuoni Institute organises the event “One day to discover the environments of Lorenzo Milani” for lower and upper secondary schools (2:30 – 3:30, Auditorium di Santa Apollonia). The last event of Didacta off is the projection of the film “The summer to come. Stories of another possible school”, in the presence of the director Claudia Cipriani. The story of three schools of different levels in different parts Italy, making courageous choices and carrying out projects to create an innovative school (5 pm – 7 pm , Auditorium of Santa Apollonia).
