The Second Edition of DIDACTA ITALIA – Sicilian Edition – October 12-14, 2023, Misterbianco (CT)

After the great success of the first edition, welcoming over 7,000 participants and involving the whole school world from Sicily and other regions of South Italy, DIDACTA ITALIA – Sicilian Edition is back by popular demand. For the second year in a row, the first spin-off of the national edition will take place inside the premises of Sicilia Fiera Exhibition Meeting Hub in Misterbianco, in the province of Catania, from Thursday 12th to Saturday 14th October 2023.

This event is aimed at all education levels: 0-6 (kindergarten), primary schools, first and second grade secondary schools, professional institutes, ITS (Higher Technical Institutes), universities, scientific research and professional training institutes, in addition to professionals from the world of school, companies, and all the staff and insiders. All the categories of this sector will be involved – school managers, teachers, instructors, as well as the main professional associations and local authorities.

The exhibiting surface was doubled, with 22,000 square metres distributed over 4 pavilions (compared to the 12,000 square metres in a single pavilion of the 2022 edition) and the format of the national edition was also confirmed, combining an area reserved to training and immersive workshops, seminars, conferences, and an exhibiting section. The leading companies on a national and international scale will be on show, offering the latest proposals in terms of electronics, robotics, augmented reality, innovative learning environments 4.0, learning ecosystems, and digital and editorial contents of the latest generation.

Among the main novelties, events dedicated to artificial intelligence and its developments, along with all the opportunities offered by digital evolution, in order to make learning environments more appealing and fight the issue of early school leaving from the ground – a phenomenon that is still firmly rooted in the Sicily Island and in Southern Italian regions. An environment dedicated to the 0-6 age group will be set up, along with two immersive classrooms, where participants will be able to experiment the synergy between textbooks and digital languages and contents. A workshop room will also be dedicated and equipped for STEM subjects didactics.

“Investing in human capital – commented Renato Schifani, President of the Region of Sicily – is one of the priorities of my government. This second edition of the event in Sicily confirms the synergy that started last year, along with the ambition of making our island a hub for education and training in the Mediterranean – a reference for all the Mare Nostrum countries. The next Didacta will offer the opportunity to discuss crucial themes, in the present and in the near future, along with promoting the cultural, social, and economic growth of our land and of its educational institutions at all levels”.

“Didacta in Sicily – said Mimmo Turano, Councillor of Education and Professional Training for the Region of Sicily – is both an opportunity and a challenge. An opportunity to innovate the Sicilian knowledge, education, and training sector, dedicated to all the teachers who, every day, try to meet the training needs of our youth. And a challenge for Sicilian schools that must prove that they are more alive than ever, ready to intercept changes and contribute to the development of our land”.

“For us, organising this second Sicilian edition of DIDACTA ITALIA – the Italian spin-off of Didacta International – with the co-operation of the Region of Sicily and of all the designated institutional and industry partners, is a great source of satisfaction and pride – stated Lorenzo Becattini, President of Firenze Fiera. “The wide participation and the excellent synergy shared by all the ‘protagonists’ of the 2022 edition encourages us to increase spaces and contents, to offer Sicilian and South Italy teachers an even more innovative and attractive Fair for the training processes of the new generations”.

DIDACTA ITALIA – Sicilian Edition is organised by Firenze Fiera in co-operation with the Region of Sicily. The Fair offers a high-level scientific programme, with scientific partnership by INDIRE and coordinated by the professor Giovanni Biondi, relying on an Organising Committee including – next to Firenze Fiera – the Italian Ministry of Education and Merit, the Region of Sicily, the Regional School Office, the Metropolitan City of Catania, the Municipality of Catania, the Municipality of Misterbianco, the universities of Catania, Palermo, Messina, and the Kore University in Enna.
